Epic Day of Epicness Part 2

A while back Dave decided to have part 2 of Epic Day of Epicness – a day in which a bunch of us engage in a bunch of random fun stuff. It’s nice to get out and explore Daegu. We got some Kebabs, tried shooting targets and eventually ended up a French restaurant which was superb.

After the Chinese Cooking Class at my school the principal treated us to traditional tea. What a little piece of paradise right near the heart of downtown.

A Cooking Class!

[May 14] I was invited by my principal to a special Saturday cooking class. A chef from a Chinese restaurant would attend and teach the students and their mothers how to make three Chinese dishes. 

When I arrived I had the realization that I was one of the 3 teachers present. The other two were in charge of the whole program and I was personally going to be helping my principal….aka we were cooking buddies! 

The Menu

• Kkansyosaeu (깐쇼새우): fried shrimp with hot pepper sauce
• Palbochae (팔보채): 8 different seafood creatures mixed with vegetables
• Samseon Jajang (삼선짜장): stir-fried noodles with seafood (but never fish)
  and black soy bean sauce

*Jajang (also spelled jjajang), the name of the sauce, is the Korean pronunciation of the Chinese characters , which literally means “fried sauce.”

End Results

 

Verdict

I would never be able to make Chinese food without a professional. Ha, and mostly because I didn’t actually cook, I became the impropto camera woman as it usually happens.

My favorite: Kkansyosaeu -can’t go wrong with fried battered shrimp

My least favorite: Samseon Jajang – I am not fond of jajang so I was a bit biased to begin with
