Halloween in School

Of course I am running around like a witch in school. Partly because it’s easy, and partly because I’m egging on the idea that maybe I am a witch in the eyes of some students. Haha, I’m just embracing the role 😉

Anywho, for those teachers interested here is the video I made about the history of Halloween and the PPT game to follow. First do the Halloween intro PPT then the vid and then the game. I’ve found it works best in that order.

Halloween Powerpoint (intro)

Halloween Jeopardy

In the spirit of Halloween, I leave you with these two stories my students wrote in my after school class. Plus I leave you with the video I made on the history of Halloween. I’ve added the PPT Game I played with my students for anyone interested.

The Cats Town

By Hye Yeong & Hee Gyeong
It was about 1960, there lived a couple. They were going to a trip to the country and they left. But nobody knew where did they went. So the woman’s brother left his home to find them.
He arrived at the country and asked people. But they didn’t know, either. That midnight, he saw one bus. There were two or three people in the bus. He felt strange, but he rode the bus. The bus arrived at a strange village. The people who lived in that village were strange, too. They were wearing old clothes and they didn’t speak. From then on, a person who came to the strange village with him was gone each night. And there was only him left at the Bed and Breakfast. That night he didn’t sleep and waited. Some minutes later, he opened the door and saw people. They were citizens of the strange village.
They wanted to kill him. Because… that village was ‘The Cats Town’, citizens killed people and gave them to cats. They thought cats were their god. Because the Cats Town didn’t communicate with other cities, for about  100 years, they still believed nature was god.

What happens in the Ghost’s house?

By Jeong Ryu & Hee Ok
Jay was a very smart student. One day, Jay finished her homework and she was getting ready to sleep. But she heard a strange sound. Jay could not sleep. Jay said “Who are you?” A baby ghost appeared. And the baby ghost said “Jay! You must go with me together to the ghost world.” Jay wondered why, so she wanted to go to the ghost house. She said ”o..k” So Jay and the ghost went to the ghost world. The ghosts wanted to eat Jay. They were ready to eat her. But Jay screamed “Ah!!!!!!!” The ghosts caught her foot and hands. And they cut Jay’s neck, legs, arms. They ate Jay, who was very delicious.

It’s Halloween in Daegu!

Last weekend we suited up and went to celebrate one of my faaaaavorite holidays! Does it really surprise you that I like to dress up?
BAM! I impressed myself with putting this Wilykit from the Thundercats outfit together in 3 days. I made it! WoooOOooo, mama be proud! Everything including contacts cost like $35.
We first headed out to support Matt in his role in the 24 Hour Halloween Daegu Theatre Troupe show.
Then we headed out to eat afterwards, and along the way Mihwa and Kelly got embarrassed about being dressed up so they went undercover lol.
Laura managed to freak out all of downtown Daegu with her realistic creepy ghost costume. Rolling a dress in dirty potatoes and smearing flour on you really works!
Matt bought the wig, but I made him into the prettiest girl ever with makeup and accessories! The Koreans loved him, once again Matt was the celebrity of our group and people kept stopping us to take pics with him.
People kept staring. Either cause Dave looked mad creepy, or Matt was adjusting his copper colored bra (my idea as well haha).
Such a creeper!
But then Dave got freaked out when this random drunk foreigner gave him a tight squeeze…with his pig face on…a literal pig face…bought at a local meat market. Grooooossssss!
The group at JJ’s where Matt and Dave were hits with these two Korean girls who kept wanted to use the butcher knife to kill each other.
Gangnam Style –> Just had to be done.
On such a night, of course you end it doing karaoke ^__^

A Week in Photos #7

Wooooo! I got a bicycle and I’ve been riding along my ‘hood checking out the little alley ways I was too lazy to walk to since they were on hills. Haha just kidding. In all seriousness, I am glad I got to overcome my fear in Taiwan this past summer. I haven’t ridden a bike since like high school. I have this stupid fear of not having my feet planted to the ground (thus also afraid of heights and deep water). Any who, Dave and Matt got me to ride a bike at a park in Taiwan. So this is my first ride through my neighborhood and Dave and I happened upon this awesome spray painted graffiti stencil of Natalie Portman from her first movie, “Leon, the Professional”. And you know what a sucker I am for Natalie Portman, she’s like my acting hero.

I’m trying to enjoy these beautiful last days of fall. The weather is perfect. Not too cold, not too hot. The sky seems to glow this deep brilliant blue. love it.

See what I’m saying? This beautiful shot was taken this past weekend when I went to my church’s conference. It was nice to get out of Daegu for the day and enjoy the country. The Chimsan Retreat Centre was just wonderful.

A breath of fresh air…

A group of us got together at Dave & Matt’s place to make some homemade pizza! Dave made the dough and everyone else brought an ingredient. It was aaaaawesome! We got to try each other’s creations and man was I stuffed. Here is Yujeong making her own pizza. The best part of this whole thing is that as a foreigner living alone here in Korea, you often can’t eat everything in your fridge. So this potluck pizza night is awesome for emptying out your fridge haha.

Ha, no comment necessary

I got to make a dessert pizza! With the last bit of pizza dough left, Dave made a thin crust and let me top it off with a sweet lil something something while everyone sat around and  proceeded to watch “Honey Boo Boo”. If you do not know about this show…well … Youtube it. ::cringe::  My Korean friends were horrified haha, we had to assure them that no, not all of America is like that.
Here is the recipe if anyone’s interested.
Pizza dough (You can make your own or buy pre-made dough)
1 TBSP butter, melted
1/2 cup plus 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 TBSP vegetable shortening (in Korea we lack this so I used butter and just 1 TBSP of oil)
2 TBSP vegetable oil

1 cup powdered sugar
1 TBSP milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Mix together streusel ingredients with a fork, or your clean hands, then side aside. To make the pizza, pat dough into a 12 inch pizza pan that has been sprayed with oil.  Perforate pizza dough with a fork (this keeps bubbles from forming), then brush with 1 TBSP melted butter. Sprinkle cinnamon all around buttered crust. Top pizza crust with streusel mix.
Bake at 460 F (about 237 C) for 8 to 9 minutes depending on the thickness of the pizza.  Mix icing ingredients until it is of a drizzle consistency. If it is too thick, then thin with a small amount of milk until you have reached your desired thinness. When finished baking, top with icing . That’s it!
